Thought on an Iraq memorial
So what will the Iraq war memorial look like? And who will pay for it? I imagine that compared to the Vietnam War Memorial it couldn't get much darker than that. What design could it possibly have that would symbolically represent the misguidedness of this present leadership in America? An oil derrick with names on the side of all the dead? A place on one side for Iraqi's names, on another side for other foreign troops' names, and on two sides for our troops names? Perhaps the shape of a gigantic question mark would be good, a huge sculpted metal question mark symbolizing, the word "WHY?" Or how about a giant Black Angel with names on plaques at the bottom and a blank face with an oil derrick in one hand and a ripped Constitution in the other? How will we make it up to our children and children's children and all the torn and damaged families here and around the world? Would it mean that we finally woke up, when it's over and we swear that we will war no more? Would it really be over?
Will our country return to the Consitution, repair all the bills and legislation creating an underclass subservient to the rich, return health and human services to all, let go of the thought of hegemony and world domination? This and many more efforts will have to be accomplished in earnest and with great energy in order to undo all the damage that has been done in the last four years? Can we do it?
I believe we can if most of us participate in this transformation. We need to ignore the fear mongering and the hate messages. We need to stay true to our dreams and ideals, not based in materialistic wants and desires, but based in need and responsibility to our earth and one another. We need, as a people, to hold our representatives to their tasks of the peoples' work, the peoples' good. Our refusing to buy, to support, or in any way to condone through our actions the large corporations, banking insitutions, and insurance institutions that hold us hostage will help as well. All efforts to show through our actions that we do not support what is wrong with our country will help.
And why is a man's thingy so important? I'm sick of those Cialis and other related commericials and they do represent the large corporations taking over our lives! And notice how male-oriented it is, too! There was one female libido drug compared to three or four male libido drugs on TV recently! I have nothing against good sex, but why the push in this realm of business? Why not other drugs that benefit diabetics, those in pain, those with heart problems? What? Wherever the market is? Well I'll bet you there's a bigger market for diabetes and obesity products than there is for male erectile products!!! I digress!
And how will we change these ads and propaganda when the media pushes so many unbalanced messages? Stop watching TV, would be one way and only selectively watch the news, otherwise, only listen to news on liberal stations, support humane businesses and local businesses, support all legislation to prevent deregulating media, support liberal and alternate news and radio, and participate in the name-calling of and air-time call-ins of right-wing media radio personalities! State your case all over the place! The more of us who loudly express on the media and through the media, the better!
So back to the end of the Iraq occupation. OK, so we all do our part, the occupation is over and now we all work toward alternative energies, passing laws to keep power balanced in our government without presidents holding too much power, pass laws dealing with secrecy, out the alien agenda, out all secrets, and continue to put out the small fires caused by terrorists. The corporations would be under tighter laws and restrictions, obligated by law to help communities rather than rape them, and obligated to institute fair working wages and environments for all people. Those corporations that choose to relocate will have to pay extra for that as they refuse to pay on the tax end! Too dang bad! And we'll have to apologize to the world, to every raped and pillaged area, every country our corporations or government destroyed lands or peoples, and pull back our troops unless they are asked to be there. And the memorial would be multifaceted in meaning -- no more war, no more power, no more threat, no more fear, no more destruction of our Constitution, no more disrespect for our citizens and their lives! Yes, we'll always have groups who would want to usurp power, want to seek revenge upon us -- but we are quite capable of defending our nation and will by then, have allies, true allies that love and support us for we will show that we will love and support them. And how long will that take? I don't know.
Do you have any ideas for an Iraq memorial? Or ideas to recover from the damage done?
